Give Brands a Break this Holiday Season!

Recently, big brands like Gap and Best Buy have come under fire for mentioning non-Christian holidays in their seasonal advertisements…and it bugs me! I’m sorry, but people need to get over it. Guess what? Christianity is not the only religion in the world and brands cannot be expected to neglect all other holidays just to make Christians happy! I’m Christian, I celebrate Christmas, and yet it doesn’t bother me at all that a brand gives well-wishes to someone who celebrates something else…

Dear AT&T — Get over it and get better 3G coverage!

As a lot of people, I’ve been reading over the past week or two about the legal battle between AT&T and Verizon. In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the gist: Verizon made the “there’s a map for that” ad showing AT&T’s poor 3G coverage, and AT&T started crying and tried to sue Verizon. Honestly, personally I didn’t even like the ad at all and paid about 0% attention to it until AT&T started whining about it…

An ad I love: Subaru v. Snuggie

Subaru and Snuggie are two of American’s Hottest Brands of 2009, so it’s pretty cool that they’ve been “united” in this Subaru commercial from Canada. Does anyone else love this ad as much as I do?! I think it’s clever and it really grabs your attention! It really drives home the message of the Subaru brand and shows the Outback as a fun, outdoorsy car for adventure-loving people. Plus, it’s apparently really working…

Dear YellowBook: Why?!

Why – year after year – do you insist on leaving your thousand-page book on my doorstep? Do you understand that I don’t use you anymore (and haven’t since I was calling my middle school friends)? After all, we have the internet now! And how many trees do you kill each year to do this? Isn’t there a better way? [...]

Battle of the smart phones: Droid v. iPhone

I’m sure you’ve all seen the ads for Verizon/Motorolla’s new phone, Droid. Droid took off the gloves, imitated an iPhone commercial, and called out the top smart phone for what it doesn’t do — doesn’t have a real keyboard, can’t multitask, can’t take 5-megapixel pictures, can’t take pictures in the dark, doesn’t customize, can’t run widgets and can’t interchange batteries…and I love it! What do you think?

POLL: blog advertising, sponsored tweets & more – what do you think?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about sponsored blog posts, blog advertisements and sponsored tweets, and I want to know what you think! Love ‘em or hate ‘em? Will you stop following a blog or a tweep just because they’re partaking in this activity? Do you even care? Voice your opinion [...]

Breast cancer ads use sex to educate: Love em or hate em?

Next month is National Breast Cancer Month, so what better way to catch some attention and shed some light on breast cancer and its prevention than with some provocative ads? While these ads have caught some controversy, I personally LOVE them! I’ve criticized how other [...]

Should Photoshopped ads be required to carry a disclaimer?

In an effort to try and stamp out eating disorders, French politicians want to place a “health warning” on photographs of models that are Photoshopped to make them look more attractive. When I read the article, I was curious to see what other marketers thought [...]
