The nice thing about social media is how it evens the playing field. Online, it’s not about how many years you’ve been in the business but rather how well you engage. It’s no secret that I’m young. I’m in my early- to mid-twenties, with one year of full-time salaried agency experience (+ my year and 1/2 of internship work). I haven’t been working in PR for 15+ years like a lot of people here in town. However, because of social media, I’m still able to excel as…

After declaring on Monday that I’m going to be using social media as much as possible in my own personal wedding planning, I thought it was fitting for me to post a little something about the groom who changed his Facebook status and tweeted at the alter. For those of us who have jobs, building a personal brand is still important — particularly for those of us in an agency environment. After all, I’ve gotten new client referrals based on my own personal brand. Not only does it help you, but it also helps the company you work for — But how do you build [...]

Every now and then someone will ask me — when you’re looking to hire someone, do you really look at their Facebook account? My go to answer is to advise they keep the account on private…because yes, some people DO care what’s on there. But do I? Honestly no. If I look at a person’s social network accounts before an interview, it’s more to get to know them a little better as [...]

I’m a big believer in the idea that having employees with strong personal brands thus contributes to the company’s brand. Sometimes there’s no clear line between what I’m doing to better myself at my job and better myself…well, just for myself. But maybe there’s not supposed to be a line…because it’s an equally beneficial [...]
