Dear Michael Vick: I Hate You

29 July 2009 1,390 views Comments

vickMonday, Mike Schaffer wrote a blog post about Michael Vick’s reinstatement. Anyone that knows me knows this is a hot button issue for me, and it’s sometimes best not to get me started (lol)…but I of course had to comment and now I have to write my own blog post as well.

As a pit bull owner and advocate, it’s pretty clear why I hate Michael Vick. He tortured and killed numerous dogs while running a dog fighting ring. (In case you forgot the story, click here. It’s pretty heart-wrenching.)

It’s people like him that destroy what I would consider to be the most beautiful, obedient, loving grouping of dog breeds: the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Shaffordshire Terrier. It’s because of trash like Vick that Breed Specific Legislation laws are being passed all over the country, making it a CRIME for law-aiding, good dog owners like myself to keep our pets.

But that’s besides the point. Football players are idolized by children and adults alike. Little kids grow up looking at people like Vick and thinking “that’s what I want to be when I grow up”. Do you want your child to look up to a murderer?! Michael Vick being reinstated is a crock of shit.

Yeah, I get it: he served his time. (And by served his time I mean hung out in his super nice lakefront house which would be considered a relaxing vacation by most people.) HOWEVER, if I killed innocent animals, do you think Pyxl would let me come back to work after I was released from jail?! I don’t think so! And I’m not in some idolized career making an ultra plush salary.

There are certain things that carry a lifetime of consequences, and maybe people need to realize that before they make certain actions (like killing dogs for instance). Just look at the intern who plagiarized a few articles from the New York Times. She’s going to be haunted with that for life and will probably have a very hard time finding a career in journalism. How is it that a girl who stole a few lines will be worse off than a guy who killed innocent animals?!

It really all just makes me sick. Vick is going to be living the high life again in no time…and it’s absolutely not right!

Plus, it’s a psychologically accepted fact that people who abuse animals are five times more likely to hurt people too. Clearly, Vick is sick in the head! But what do we do with people like this in our society? Reward them, apparently! Ugh!

I really just think this reinstatement is not right. I highly doubt Vick has learned any lesson here, and I think his “partnership” with the Humane Society is nothing more than a PR stunt. Maybe the only lesson he might have learned is that the money goes away (for 2 years) when you’re caught killing dogs…other than that, I doubt he feels remorse.

And for the record, the day Michael Vick dies, I’m throwing a celebratory party. You can hold me to that.

In the midst of the Olympics the television station BET is running episodes of The Mickal Vik project. he is saying "I used to hang them, shoot them, beat them, and drown them" this devil has the balls to feel sorry for himself for going to jail and shows no authentic remorse on this show that is meant to demonstrate a rehabilitated man. This monster has obviously learnt nothing in jail and is responsable for a drastic increase in dog fighting among inner cities and those who look up to him.
I used to watch BET all the time.... I have now decided to boycott this station and I suggest that you all do the same, if you care enough even call your cable provider like i'm going to and request that they remove that channel from your service and express your disbelief that this programming is allowed to air.
This is clearly nothing but required community service that your publisist recommended.
Enjoy your inevitable enternity in hell Micheal Vik. I don't care how big you are, if I ever meet you, expect spit between your eyes.

I absolutly HATE Micheal Vick!! I cant even look at a picture of him without feeling the madness of a crazed women. He does not deserve to be a free man, let alone be able to play professional football. He should be locked up for the rest of his life..... HE IS A MURDER for gods sake!!! He claims to be sorry, but hes not. He is sorry he got caught. Its people like this that make me ashamed to be a human being.
  • Chew toys?
Oh Nicole you make me laugh. lol
  • Hehe...love those!
  • Thanks for all the comments and support, guys! I'm glad to see there are lots of others that feel the same :)

I thought it was the National Football League not the Natioal Felon League. The real victims are Jane, Big Boy, Maniac, Zebro, Cleo, Seal, Magic, Tiny, Too Short and Chico. They are the dogs, that were drowned, electrocuted, hung, raped and forced to fight to the death. Also authorities found the bodies of numerous kittens, puppies and other small dogs that were used in training exercises. The agonizing cries of his victims should outweigh any cheers or support for their killer.

He is a criminal and an ignorant thug, who should have spent the rest of his life in jail. If anyone thinks this guy lost 1 wink of sleep over killing those poor animals, they’re sadly mistaken.
It just goes to show you that in our professional sports world, everything and everyone have a price. The NFL should be ashamed. It is why (along with in the NBA) there are no true mentors or talent in the NFL, and the days of the TRUE athlete are forever gone. - Nothing but uneducated, over-paid thugs & criminals.

Thank you, Nicole, for writing this article. I just wish that the head of the NFL could be held responsible for the terrible mistake that has been made in letting this horrible murderer back into the football league. Isn't there something we could all do about that? Some day MV will have to meet his maker and there will be a lot of dogs around to welcome him. What goes around always comes around, so we'll have to watch for that. Where do I get those toys for my dogs?

  • The NFL said he could come back...but I do not think a team has picked him up yet.

What Michael Vick did was horrible...it makes me sick to my stomach. However, if he has changed his perspective on dog fighting, he could be the key to change it. Dog fighting, like bull fighting, is a cultural sport. I can't understand it but many children grown up with it and never give a second thought to the suffering of the animal. If he can get through to those kids...the world will be a better place.

So for now...I am willing to wait and see if he is a changed man. But, I will not be buying a ticket to see him play. However, I do not spend my money on sport tickets anyway.

This is a great dog toy...maybe they will give it out at his first game.
  • @mikeschaffer
I don't think you were clear enough in your position here! ;)
  • Let's put aside the fact that I am a die-hard Tampa Bay Bucs fan and have hated Michael Vick since before his conviction. I agree with you that Vick should not be reinstated- even though he served his time, his crime was disgusting and he should not get to practice professional football.
  • Thanks for the comments :)

Harmon, I'm buying one too lol...because Diesel and Link do the same to toys ;)

I guess the application to be a pro athlete doesn't have that "have you ever been convicted of a crime" part...? seems like a pretty important question to be asking considering that so many kids are looking up to them.

on a side note, I just watched "The T.O. show" on VH1 last night - guess he's trying to show the other side of himself or something. So far, it worked on me, despite the fact that he's the executive producer.

oh, and i'm totally buying one of those dog toys right now. Is it bad that I'm more inclined to buy it knowing that Oakley destroys every toy I've ever gotten him? Including those "indestructible" kongs?

btw the bg keeps us from effectively seeing the good things here.Change it.

Michael Vick gives humanity a bad name. Check out Jeff Perlman's blog http://jeffpearlman.com/?p=2599..he actually compares Vick's actions to pinching a coworker's ass or denying your child an extra helping of dessert.
