Dear Foursquare: Please come to Knoxville!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s seen that Foursquare is the next Twitter. While I’m excited for the next big thing, I’m sad because I’ve been begging and pleading for Foursquare to come to Knoxville since it launched back in March…and still to no avail : ( I just have to watch as friends in bigger cities talk about how awesome it is. So please, Foursquare, come to Knoxville. We have cool things to see and do here too…even if we are a small city.

Brand Yourself: 6 Tips for Building your Personal Brand

“Personal branding” is a buzz phrase I hear almost daily. We all know it’s important to have one, especially in a world where jobs can be hard to come by. For those of us who have jobs, building a personal brand is still important — particularly for those of us in an agency environment. After all, I’ve gotten new client referrals based on my own personal brand. Not only does it help you, but it also helps the company you work for — But how do you build [...]

{IMHO} — Facebook photos and the job hunt

Every now and then someone will ask me — when you’re looking to hire someone, do you really look at their Facebook account? My go to answer is to advise they keep the account on private…because yes, some people DO care what’s on there. But do I? Honestly no. If I look at a person’s social network accounts before an interview, it’s more to get to know them a little better as [...]

Is your personal brand helping your company’s image?

I’m a big believer in the idea that having employees with strong personal brands thus contributes to the company’s brand. Sometimes there’s no clear line between what I’m doing to better myself at my job and better myself…well, just for myself. But maybe there’s not supposed to be a line…because it’s an equally beneficial [...]

Are we spreading ourselves too thin?

Today I signed up for Tumblr. I’m not really sure why or what I’m going to use it for…but I figured it might be fun. After all, I’m a PR/social media gal, so shouldn’t I try out all the mediums at hand? That got me thinking…how many social networks should I be on? Is there a right [...]

Twitter turns toward entertainment?

While doing my routine Monday morning blog catchup, I noticed an article via Mashable about Twitter’s turn toward entertainment over news, tech, etc. The post struck me because as an avid twitter user, I just don’t feel like Twitter is predominately entertainment-based. Yes, I tweet when I like a movie and I’ve seen those I follow do the same. However [...]

Social Media Brand Loyalty?

We all know about brand loyalty. We either like Coke or Pepsi, PC or Mac, Google or Bing…but are social medium fan-bases divided by brand loyalty as well? Or will they become divided as networks like Facebook and Twitter continue to evolve? Last week, Facebook bought Friendfeed and launched Facebook light – two things which somehow seem to be moves [...]

The Cost of Bad Publicity

In today’s Web 2.0 world, everyone has a voice and word-of-mouth is more powerful than ever. Of course, you can’t please everyone all the time, but it’s important for companies to recognize that they at least need to care about their customers, otherwise something like this will happen…About a year ago when musician Dave Carroll flew United Airlines [...]
